Quirky, exciting and full of fun, Brighton is a great place for a weekend getaway, staycation or autumn break. Famous for its beach, nights out and shopping, this seaside spot is the place to be. Sometimes called London by the sea, it’s just 1 hour by train from the capital, but definitely has its own personality with retro, old-school cafés and shops found between the two piers.
Brighton is bursting with attractions such as the outlandish Royal Palace, a thriving arts and creative industry, superb shopping and invigorating ocean views. It may seem like a typical British seaside resort, but look a little closer and you’ll discover a lot more!

Brighton’s best view! BA i360 450ft/150m observation tower is a must-see attraction when you visit Brighton. Opened in 2016, you’ll find it on the seafront where the burnt-out West Pier once met the promenade. Get impressive views of all of Brighton, across the South Downs, the English Channel and on a clear day, the Isle of Wight.
One of the UK’s major landmarks, the Palace Pier extends out into the English Channel for half a kilometre. It’s a Grade-II listed pleasure pier, famous for fairground rides, arcade games and fish and chips. The pier has been a “bucket and spade” stalwart since opening in 1899, has survived two world wars and constant battering of storms. A must visit for some old-school seaside fun!
The Lanes are the oldest part of the city, packed with cosy cafes, bakeries, craft and vintage clothes shops for you to explore. Wander through this maze of narrow alleys lined with sixteenth-century buildings to the tune of buskers that have long been a fixture of the quarter. An excellent way to spend an afternoon.
The Royal Pavilion, is a Grade I listed former royal residence in the middle of town. With its onion domes and minarets it could easily be placed in colonial India. This ornate, Grade I-listed structure was designed by John Nash (designer of Buckingham Palace and London’s Regent Street) in the early nineteenth century and was once a holiday home for British Kings. Today it’s frequented by visitors looking for a glimpse inside its quaint replica rooms, art galleries and very impressive grounds.
No visit to Brighton is complete without a trip to the beach. You’ll catch the smell of fish and chips and see the deckchairs fluttering in the breeze. The five mile long pebble beach has a cosmopolitan atmosphere, especially in the evening, when seafront clubs and bars come alive underneath the Victorian beachfront arches.
